The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is a military operation primarily in charge of keeping Australia well protected and to defend against any armed attack. The Australian Defence Force has just over 80,000 full-time personnel who are spread among the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The ADF also works to defend its national interests.

At the present time the Australia’s military are committing approximately 3300 Australian Defence Force personnel to 12 different operations overseas. The ADF are fighting against terrorism and helping to counter piracy with maritime security in the Middle East and Afghanistan. The Australian Defence Force supplies people with thousands of jobs every year and develops critical trade and professional skills. In doing this our economy is increased and Australia thrives more as a country.

Economic disadvantages of defence
Lots of money is put into defence. The government has been criticised for spending too much money and resources on defence and not enough on health, education, welfare and infrastructure. This can cause dispute among the population as not enough time and money is being spent on other important things.

Geopolitical advantages of defence
The Australian Defence Force continues to provide stability in the Asia-Pacific region and defends Australia from national violations and lessens terrorist threats. Australia is a safer country to live in because of alliances with other countries. In discussing with other nations the ADF is able to maintain devise agreements intended at reducing nuclear, chemical, biological and land-mine warfare.

Geopolitical disadvantages of
