In contrast to the Wakatsuki’s, the Frank family was put in a life or death situation. They were targeted by the German Nazi Party in which discriminated all Jews. Unlike Jeanne Wakatsuki, Anne’s family had a smaller area to work with and could not step foot out of the door. She attempts to put the situation in her own words. As stated in The Diary of a Young Girl, “I see the eight of us in the Annex as if we were a patch of blue sky surrounded by menacing black clouds.

Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl living in Amsterdam during the occupation by the Nazis. She was forced to go into hiding above her father's work for two years to avoid prison. During her time in hiding, she kept a diary and wrote about her experience. Frank writes about her loving and compassionate family and also mentions how she has built new relationships with the other families in the house. In her diaries, Frank frequently emphasizes the value of family, emphasizing how her trials were made easier by the presence of those she loved who understood what she was going through.
During the 1940’s, the Nazis gained control over Germany. As the persecuting of the Jews increased the Frank family went into hiding. On Monday, July 6th, 1942 the Frank family went into hiding behind a book case where Anne’s father used to work or known as the secret annex.
It became hard for Anne, she was put into a segregated Jewish school, her father even had to give up his title in his business. On June 12, 1942 Anne got a diary for her birthday, this will later be the reason we know Anne Frank’s story. On July 5, 1942 Anne’s family were forced into hiding; it was no longer safe for their family to live in the outside world. She wrote in her diary “ The world will keep turning without me, and I can’t do anything to change events anyway.” The family spent two years in hiding, it wasn't till August 4, 1944 that the family was found by the police, they arrested everyone in hiding.
Anne Frank and her family were in hiding for two years. During those two years, the family lived in an Annex with another family named the Van Daans. Also during these two years she wrote in her diary about her experiences of each day and what her wishes were. Her father Otto Frank and her mother Edith Frank including the Van Daans would try and take care of the family as best as they could. In hiding, they were not able to leave their home as they might get caught.
At the times of World War II, conflict was at its finest. This was a devastating period of time, and a time Anne Frank had to live through. On page 10 in The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne speaks to us saying, “He heard Hitler’s marching gangs sing that horrible song, ‘when Jew blood spurts from the knife,’ and he knew it was time to leave.” The Frank family’s only option would be to hide, and all they could do is hope for
They didn't even have to go into hiding, they could have just went to the camps like the Nazis wanted. Instead they chose to survive no matter what that meant. They were going to do anything. Instead of giving up they hid and knew that they had to do all of these things that Mr. Frank was telling them because they wanted to be able to stay hidden for as long as possible no matter what that
They discovered Anne's diary papers, which were left behind after the arrest. A quote from this book reads, “In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again. ”According to The Anne Frank museum, Anne also wrote tales and planned to publish a book about her time in the Secret Annex.
To start off, Anne Frank spent most of her time hiding in an unoccupied space at the back of Otto Frank's company suit, which is what they called a secret Annex.

As people can see the daily lives of the prisoners were extremely strenuous. Prisoners of the concentration camps were traumatized. They were stripped of their freedom and were forced to work until they could no longer carry on. Thankfully this event has long since passed and the survivors have been liberated and allowed to live the remainder of their lives in peace without fear of something like this happening to them again. One specific experience the victims of the Holocaust went through were the Concentration camps that the Germans forcefully took them too.
Anne Frank’s Character Development Throughout the War Throughout World War II Anne Frank was kept hidden away in a 500 square foot building they came to call the Secret Annexe. Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Daans endured difficult times of hunger, thirst, and lack of privacy cornered by walls for over two years. Anne confided her observations and feelings of the hard times within her diary she named Kitty. By writing in her diary both before and after the war, one could visibly notice how Anne went into the Annexe as a juvenile and came out as a young adult.
Prisoners in concentration camps had levels of social status. There were people with high social status. They were able to do more pleasant jobs. They worked mostly inside the buildings. The people with low social status, they were given harsh and cruel jobs.
However, the camps were still crowded and the food was scarce. The blocks were crowded and didn’t have the best of ventilation or plumbing. They were able to work and got paid that of an Army Private. They were allowed to play sports and continue hobbies. In a simple sense, they were living their daily life in isolation and little pay for their work.
