Good morning Sarah, SPSY 510 (psy of exceptional children) goes into the 13 categories of disabilities in which students may be placed for special education. It's a lot of work, but it is a 8 week class. We meet Tuesdays from 5pm to 10pm. For the most part, two students present a chapter (yesterday I had a presentation on speech and language impairment and another lady talked about autism).

Children who grow up in poverty are faced with a series of issues which impact their education and social atmosphere. In both the school and home setting these children lack the proper resources which they need to succeed academically. Across the country, people have begun creating programs which aim to help children in poverty succeed, despite their socioeconomic status. These programs range from after-school reading, tutoring services, charter schools, and free summer programs. All of these programs provide children with extra academic help which they may not be receiving in school or at home.
The potentially positive outcomes of school choice would be 1) Vouchers improve public schools: Vouchers give parents the right to choose the right school, the right education system for their child. Every students have their different needs on education, for example, some students needs English Learner classes, and some wants to talk music classes. This gives the parents freedom on finding the right school for their kids. And when the school knows the students have a choice with vouchers, they will improve their school to keep students coming to their school.
Now while all this is in occurrence, another more beneficial school has ease of access to any ideal high school should and more. They have very well curriculums for students to become the best they can be and hold numbers resulting into most of their school ranking in Advanced Placement classes. The differences between these schools are far from becoming equal but this is evidence that our educational system is not equally diverse and that many students are suffering lacks of education forcibly due to education system. The education system has flaws spread out many schools in our nation. That being, our system is ready for an improvement.
The United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights shows that there has been a constant overrepresentation of minority children in what is known as special education courses. The majority of this overrepresentation occurs for African American children. Unfortunately this has been occurring for years, during the 1980’s African American students only made up sixteen percent of the total school population make up, however they represented thirty-eight percent of children that were in classes for students that were in need of special education courses. Over the years there has been an Act authorized to help provide better educational opportunities and support to children of lower income families and disabilities. As of 1965, it was known as the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and it allowed federal spending on K-12 school programs. In 2001, the act was revised and called No Child Left Behind (NCLB), but did not take effect till 2002. The No Child Left Behind Act requires states to test students annually on math and reading starting in third grade. The schools must also hire teachers that are highly qualified to teach the core classes and the state must send annual report cards to schools based on the performance of students on the standardized tests.
Charter Schools are publicly funded independent private schools established by teachers, parents, or community groups, under the terms of a charter with a local or national authority. Charter Schools are public schools of choice, meaning that families chose them for their kids. Also teachers who work at a charter school usually fall under more flexible certification requirements than other public school teachers. Charter schools are often similar to magnet schools they often offer special programs such as Math, Engineering, and Environmental science. Also if The Charter school you are trying to enroll in gets too popular they will sometimes use a lottery system which will fill in the vacancies.
In the program, there are students with learning disabilities, students with autism, nonverbal students, students with behaviors, and much more. There are students right here at CHS that have these disabilities and most students here do not understand how to interact with them. Also for those of you who are future parents, you never know what the future holds and you could have a child with disabilities. Credibility: My mom is a Special Education teacher, I have watched her teach for many years. I have also assisted with some of my moms students.
Should Children with Disabilities be allowed to enroll in regular school? Every human being is equal and has the right to education irrespective of race, sex and religion. In the past generally people with disabilities were discriminated against and excluded from society. However, people’s attitudes, towards this group have started to change and they are beginning to enjoy article same freedoms like any other people.
I spent my fifteen hours observing two special education classrooms at Sulphur Intermediate School. One focused on math and the other on reading, though many of the children I observed worked in both classrooms. The students were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. Most of the students had mild to moderate disabilities and simply needed extra help in reading, math, or both subjects. They did not stay for the entire day, but rather came for certain periods.
According to Dr. Jose Rizal “Ang kabataan ang siyang pag-asa ng bayan” that’s why education should be plan wisely. Having a good quality of education is having a powerful community; if people in the community are educated then economy will be better. If we want to have a better economy of coarse we should have knowledge and skillful graduates that industry needs. To meet the goal we must improve our education system and the key to that is to implement and support k-12 K-12 was implementing starting 2011 and by 2013 president Aquino signed the k-12 into law, adding 3 years to country basic education curriculum.
