As we all probably know by now, online journalism has a few advantages that make it the preferred choice when put side to side with traditional journalism. Some of its advantages include immediacy, the use of multimedia elements, interactivity, unlimited space and more. Due to these advantages, online journalism is favored by some but at the same time, avoided by some. The reason being is that, although it has a lot of great advantages, online journalism does come with a few disadvantages.
On the web, anyone is free to post whatever they want, whenever they want. This is a great disadvantage because a lot of the information that is available on the internet could potentially be fake and invalid since it might be posted by a source that is not credible. For example, not everyone should be allowed to post information online and if anyone does, their credibility must be proven. There has to be some sort of rules and regulations put online to ensure that the information that goes on there is appropriate and accurate. Certain websites that contain sensitive information must be age restricted and contain a disclaimer as a warning for those who come across those websites. Traditional media must start to get involved in online journalism in order not to lose their relevance. They need to be up to date. Since we are living in the digital age, old school media must develop ways where they can blend both the traditional and the digital together.
