Sparta- The Great City-State

“By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest.” Sparta was a warrior society in Ancient Greece that was set during 401 and 434 BC. Especially, Sparta was a city-state that valued military education and their type of battling style. Sparta had many wars such as the Peloponnesian War and the Trojan War. Notably, the Spartans also had many famous people during their time such as many philosophers, leaders, and famous warriors. The city-state that was superior was Sparta because of their geography, daily life, and cultural achievements. Sparta had the geographic advantage politically and socially. First,“The mountains included Mt. Taygetus (2407 m) and to the east by Mt. Parnon (1935 m).” (Document G) For clarification, Sparta was protected from attacking enemies because they had the natural barriers. Initially, “As boys start at 7 training for the military, they learn survival skills which can help them defend themselves and protect themselves.” (Doc A). Specifically, in Sparta, it would be a better place to live because you get well trained for the military. If I know how to protect myself, I would not have to worry about attackers trying to kill me; I could also get my own food and be able to be fed and trained. In my opinion, Sparta was the better place to live for social reasons. For example, “Girls were educated at age 7 in reading and writing, gymnastics, athletics and survival skills. (Doc H) In addition, the education is important because it shows that girls got an education in Sparta and were as treated as equal as boys. I would have preferred to live in a place where everyone is equal whereas in Athens everyone is not. In addition to daily life, cultural achievements is another example of why Sparta is
