Literary Analysis Collection 1 In the 3 stories, “Liberty”, “The Sniper”, and “The Most Dangerous Game” there is conflict over the three stories. It all has a setting, conflict, and charters. Each charter has a conflict in each setting. But they have their similarities and differences.
In the short story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty the theme is that war changes human beings to mere objects. The story of “The Sniper” sets in the city, fundamentally in the rooftop and in the streets of the city of Dublin, Ireland.
Liam O’ Flaherty does an outstanding job of creating a shocking and tense atmosphere within The Sniper. Throughout The Sniper, the author puts the Republican sniper in many close call situations that could potentially kill him. “A bullet flattened itself against the parapet of the roof... There was a flash and a bullet whizzed over his head,” (Page 1). When the sniper goes to peak after the first shot, the reader wonders if he is going to get hit with a bullet, which adds the atmosphere of .
To begin with, in the story "The Sniper" the main character is the Republican Sniper. The conflict in the story was that there was a civil war taking place in Ireland and people were getting killed. In two short stories the main characters have to deal with Adversity and they both have too uses there smarts to conquer it. The the Short Story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell both of the main characters have to think of a way to outsmart their enemies. In “The Sniper” A Republican Sniper was laying watch on a roof. A cross the way there is another sniper wanting him dead.
Everyone has to overcome adversity in their life. In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character, Rainsford, fell of his boat at night time On the Island, Rainsford finds a home where General Zaroff lives. The problem is that the only way he can leave the island is if he survives a “game”. Where General Zaroff is hunting him. So Rainsford has to survive for three days.
Man or woman, young or old, everyone on the opposite side was considered an enemy. To him, those people were just targets, an objective to kill. The Most Dangerous Game Analyze more of the elements written “Rainsford held his breath. The general's eyes had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring.” Rainsford is a skilled hunter that was challenged.
The intelligent and strategic sniper has to protect his life by killing others, and even though his brother dies because of this he was correct in his decision to kill. The sniper enjoys very much his job and is willing to fight for the republican side,“They were deep and thoughtful, the eyes of a man who is used to looking at death.” (O’flaherty, 2). This shows that the sniper is committed to the job he is required to perform. He knows he is always exposed to death and is never safe, so he always uses his critical thinking and strategic planning to get out of a dangerous situation.

He lit a cigarette which alerted the enemy to where he was. This initiated a gun fight between him and an unknown identity sniper. The Republican sniper was hit in his arm by a bullet.
Liam O'Flaherty's short story “The Sniper” takes place in Dublin during a civil war between the Republicans and the Free Staters. The Sniper, whose name we do not know, has a sniper duel that takes place during the story. The sniper has his ups and downs throughout the fight, but in the end he came out victorious and guestoning who he killed. Liam O'Flaherty creates the theme “Never get excited about bad situations” and he supports this theme with a cliffhanger at the end of the story and very little dialogue to ramp up his biggest weakness; his pride. Bad situations are horrible to get in, so never get excited about them; like the Sniper and his job.

“The sniper look at his enemy falling, underline and shuttered. The lust of battle died in him.” This is the end result when violence and assumption overcome us: we react in the right away. From the short story, “The Sniper”, we learn that assumption and violence can cause us to act in regrettable ways. The enemy sniper kills innocent people, the sniper fakes his death, and kills the enemy sniper.
