Emotions, like waves on the ocean in the middle of a thunderstorm, all you can do is hope you don’t drown. No matter how hard you try, even if you master the art of sailing you will always be at their mercy. Emotions are one of the hardest things to control but novels like Drew Hayden Taylor's novel The Night Wanderer are an example of how to take back control. Tiffany has gone through many hardships in her young life, her boyfriend is making her life hard when she is with him and at home. Kieth, Tiffany's father is pushing his daughter away, and how all of these facts collide at the lowest point in her life but instead of crumpling she grows from it. This is causing more stress at home as Tiffany likes her boyfriend, creating a rift that none of them try to mend. “Tony had been there several times before. The last time he was there he noticed a scarecrow leaning against the side of the house. It was wearing the same shirt he had worn his first visit, when he discovered Kieth wasn’t quite comfortable with him dating his daughter.” (18) When Tony drops Tiffany off at her house he stays in the car not wanting to draw Kieth's rath. Tiffany wants to have freedom and be out with her boyfriend, Kieth does not want that for her making every time she comes home like walking on eggshells which is harmful to anyone's emotional well-being. Tony never offers to go and talk with Tiffany's father or try to get to know him. Maybe then Kieth would think of him as his daughter's boyfriend rather than the white boy trying to steal her away from him. First how Tony was causing her stress directly and indirectly. The second was how Kieth was pushing away his daughter because he didn’t want her to see him at his weakest. Lastly how she grew from all of these factors with a nudge in the right direction from Pierre. From start to finish seeing Tiffany grow from a selfish angry person to a kind one, although she still has a long path ahead of her. Every person can take notes from her journey and bloom. It isn’t about the type of adversity or how much adversity is valid to feel awful about life, it’s about what you can learn from it How it teaches about how to enjoy things in life before they are
