Seminar One Application Assignment
Synopsis:
Advia Credit Union has had a significant impact on the development of my value system throughout my adult years. Yes, I do agree that many of my values were in place by the time I started my employment there, but working for my credit union has really helped me define and live by the values I have. Understanding what a credit union is is the first step. A credit union is a not for profit organization created to serve its members. Although credit unions offer many services like banks, the credit unions work to give their proceeds back to the membership in the form of better rates and lower fees. A credit union doesn’t have stock holders, we have members and we are governed by our board of directors, who are volunteers.
I started working for the credit union at 20 years old. When I started, it was a part time job while I was finishing up college. Little did I know that it would become my career and that this opportunity would allow me to grow, learn, contribute and love what I do. You can say, I grew up there and learned what was important to me in my adult life.
Analysis:
Advia Credit Union has defined a set group of core values. They are:
1) Act with integrity
2) Keep people at the core
3) Build and strengthen relationships
4) Drive progress

This too, has strengthened my value of belonging to the community and feeling good about where you live and work. Throughout my career, Advia has provided me many opportunities to be involved in the community and has taught me the value of contributing. I now regularly volunteer for Michigan Blood, for an annual blood drive. I work for my township, due to my experience and connections from my credit union and I get to use 3 paid days to volunteer for local charity events throughout the
