Aeneas was a considered a hero in Greek Mythology. His mother was the goddess Aphrodite and his father was Anchises. Aeneas was a Trojan noble who fought in the Trojan War. His deeds are found in the Roman epic called the Aeneid of Vergil. During the Trojan War, Aeneas was wounded by a Greek solider named Diomedes. Aeneas had escaped the battle with the help of Apollo, who took him to Leto and Artemis to tend to his wounds. As he escaped, Aeneas also took with him the sacred statue of Troy called the Palladium. Many years later after traveling to several cities and countries, Aeneas settled in Italy. It has been said that his descendants were to have founded the Roman Empire. It also has been stated that Julius Caesar is one of Aeneas descendants.
