An epic hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to endure overwhelming obstacles. In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, three heros named Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules exhibit different traits that affect their journey in a positive or negative way. Perseus receives supernatural help, Theseus displays incredible strength, and Hercules has a fatal flaw that will end tragically, these qualities are what classify each as an epic hero.
These past few weeks I have read the book The Brass Verdict, written by Michael Connelly, and is the second installment in the Haller series. This marvelous book was published on October 14, 2008 and is 422 pages in length. The crime and fiction novel is based around the main character named Michael (Mickey) Haller, who is a defense attorney in the city of Los Angeles. Despite spending a year recovering from his wounds, as well as an addiction to painkillers from the previous installment, Mickey is requested to return to his career of law after an old defense attorney friend of his, Jerry Vincent, was murdered. He is called to take on Vincent's workload, which contains many cases, such as the notorious trial of Walter Elliott.
Odysseus is an epic hero because he cares about his family, he is intelligent and he shows courage and because he shows determination. There was one obstacle where they fell into a cyclone and were stuck there Odysseus managed to get through it. Odysseus would be an example of a epic hero because he cares about his family. Odysseus took a trip out with his men and he met Calypso. Calypso kept Odysseus captive on her island.
If you were to think about a man with great abilities like being strong, courageous and intelligent, you could think of people you personally or like me, you could think of someone such as Odysseus. Odysseus fits the definition of an epic hero because he is quick thinking, strong and courageous. Odysseus is one quick thinking individual. He has gotten him and his crew out some some sticky situations with his clever plans. One of these plans were how to get away from Polyphemus, a cyclops who was the son of Poseidon.
An epic hero is someone who is characterized commonly on their nobility and bravery. However ,there are more attributes epic heros can posses. For example Odysseus, the protagonist in Homer's retelling of “The Odyssey”, shows many forms of excessive arrogance and pomposity. After conquering Troy, Odysseus and his men set off on their way home.
Aeneas changes as the myth progresses by becoming more aggressive and cares less to do the honorable thing as time goes on. When Aeneas see that Troy is being destroyed by the Greeks he at first wanted to fight the Greek and die honorably defending his city as most Trojan soldiers would do. He shows signs of change with how he acted when he saw Helen hiding in a shrine. When Aeneas notices her he says out loud, so Helen will hear him about how she will probably get away without being physically harmed from this war. Afterwards Aeneas comments on how he wishes he could kill her for causing the war even if it’s not the honorable thing to do by their society’s standards.
Odysseus fits the description of an epic hero because he had cleverness, exceptional knowledge, and supernatural conflict. The first reason why Odysseus fits the description of an epic hero is because he had cleverness. The first time Odysseus shows that he had cleverness was in the cyclops, Polyphemus adventure.
The Aeneid is the journey of Aeneas, a Trojan warrior, finding a place to build Rome while dealing with the furor of Juno. Rome is supposed to be founded with the idea of “sparing the conquered”; the end of furor and the start of peace. With the intentions of avoiding warfare, Aeneas is faced with many tough decisions that will impact the true nature of the upcoming Roman Empire. It is not till the end of the tale that Aeneas finally submits to his furor. The final scene is with Turnus pleading to Aeneas to not do anything out of hatred.
An epic hero is a brave and noble character in an epic poem or a movie. Some epic heroes include: Percy Jackson (Percy Jackson movie series), Odysseus (Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey), Shrek, Harry Potter (Harry Potter movie series), Aragorn (Lord Of The Rings), and many more. Some similar traits between these two characters is that they are both brave and believe in the people helping them through their conquests.

The main character, Aeneas, constantly faces conflict from both humans and gods. Aeneas is a Trojan hero and prince who embodies pietas, driven by duty, honor, and devotion, which makes him an example of an ideal Roman citizen. Aeneas was called by the gods and determined to be a successful founder of Rome, but he faced complications along the journey. In each conflict along the way, Aeneas dealt with fighting and violence and could not find peace until the end.
Well the definition of an epic hero is, “a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great achievements or affected by grand events. ”(Dictionary.com) If that doesn’t describe Odysseus, I don’t know what does. He risks his life in many circumstances, and he’s widely admired for being the one of the reasons the trojans won the war. He is also affected by lots of events throughout his adventures.
Throughout ancient literature, the authors and poets of the time depict their characters in multiple different ways. While some depict their characters as flawed individuals, others paint their characters as perfect, god-like beings who can do no wrong. In no story are the lines between perfect and flawed more skewed than in Virgil’s Aeneid. Virgil shows Aeneas as the perfect hero - the hero destined by the gods to bring the Trojans to Italy, and who fulfills his duty to his people, the gods, and his family before himself. However, due to Aeneas’s human feelings shown many times during the epic, Virgil portrays Aeneas as a flawed character in his grand Roman epic, The Aeneid.
Aeneas being a decedent from Troy and thus is he seen as an associate of the royal house of Troy. In the Iliad Aeneas is an important warrior in the Trojan war. However, Aeneas most significant role is through Virgil’s Aeneid, where Virgil made the arrival and settlement of Aeneas in Italy the main theme in his story. Aeneas was born near to tear, on mount Ida, he was given to his father Archallis at the age of five. During the Trojan war he lead the troops of Dardanian, but still under Hectors demands.

He has little care for his comrades, with the exception of Patroclus. Contrasting this, Aeneas is a placid and disciplined warrior. In the Aeneid, Aeneas is a venerable leader and a benevolent Roman. Homer’s did not idolize Achilles by turning a blind eye to his very human flaws, his actions have clear consequences. The raw, emotional depiction of Achilles is almost the polar opposite of the sober Aeneas.
