Affirmative action was established in 1961, a policy that it intended to give special attention to minority groups in order to increase their employment, promotion or admission. The policy is beneficial to those that don't necessarily have some advantages as the majority group nevertheless, it is a bias system that leads to reverse discrimination since it separates the minorities from the minorities. In addition, it demeans true minority achievements since its being interpret that many of the individuals in the minority need affirmative action in order to succeed, yet many worked hard enough not to. For instance, in the case Regents of the University of California v. Bakke, a white male who had obtained similar or better scores than some of the minority groups that were accepted into the university, an effect of affirmative action due to the fact that he was being qualified solely on his race. Instead of being a system of creating equal opportunity it is creating discrimination towards certain groups such as white individuals, which is reversing the main factor of the 14th amendment which is equal protection of the law. The system should adapt to the changes in society and not favor just one certain group since there has been a shift in society, many individuals are excluded because they are not in the minority. For instance, there are white citizens that also need assistance such as African Americans or Hispanics, the system should be eliminated and changed since it’s creating reverse discrimination toward the majority group who also need assistance and should be taken into consideration just as much as the …show more content…

Some minorities, live in areas that hold crime and are set to continue the criminal path and that assistance that is provided with affirmative action is beneficial and opens more opportunities for them. However, white citizens should be considered also as part of a beneficial policy that provides assistance, which is a reason why the policy should be eliminated and replaced in order to continue the functions of equal opportunity. Affirmative action has benefited many of the individuals in the minority and should welcome every race since many white individuals also need assistance. Society has evolved and now some white citizens are also economically unstable as African Americans and Hispanics and with the elimination of the program equal distribution of assistance will allow opportunities to all
