The Affordable Care Act was created to address the perceived healthcare problems in the United States. As with most policy implementations, this Act is seen as complicated. Costs associated with the Act have been much greater than projected and individuals are concerned that personal choices have been taken away. This paper explores the future of the Affordable Care Act in relation to the costs for our nation and effects of forced choice on citizens. Education in relation to this complicated Act is essential as Americans make future voting choices. The Affordable Care Act Introduction Nature of the Problem “The United States spends more money on health care than any other country in the world, yet we do not always get better results” (Carper, 2017). The Affordable Care Act is no exception. As a program, Affordable Care is not cheap. “When it was first introduced, different organizations and government agencies offered estimates for how the new healthcare law would impact the federal deficit in the long run” (Problems, 2017). Can the United States continue to afford the escalating costs associated with this Act? Besides this important consideration as a nation, problems with the Affordable Care Act are intense on an individual level and many consider these issues undeniable setbacks for Americans. The choices provided are very limited, and if a person chooses to opt out, a fine for noncompliance is charged.
