Affordable Care Act, (ACA) also nicknamed “Obamacare,” is a United States federal statute enacted by the 111th Unites States Congress and signed into law by former President Obama on March 23rd 2010. It represents the U.S healthcare systems most significantly regulatory overhaul and expansion of coverage since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. A primary goal of it was to make sure all Americans or nearly all obtained health insurance. Libertarians believe that healthcare prices would decrease and quality and availability of healthcare would increase if providers were freed from government meddling and control. Democrats have been fighting to secure universal health care for the American people for generations, and are proud to be the party that passed Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act. They believe that accessible, affordable, high quality health care is part of the American promise, that Americans should have the security that comes with good health care, and that no one should go broke because they get sick. We enacted landmark reforms that are already helping millions of Americans, and more benefits will come soon. Conservatives are fighting tooth and nail against the Affordable Care Act, in hopes of having it repealed, while Liberals still stand behind it, adamant that all Americans are entitled to health care. The largest discrepancy in beliefs is in the cost of the act. While Republicans believe that the Affordable Care Act will economically damage the country, Democrats believe that making health care available and more affordable to Americans will help heal the economy. The Conservatives state that the cost of the Affordable Care Act to businesses is too great, and will cause them to cut hours or lay off employees in order to account for the greater costs. Liberals, however, believe that the cost to businesses is far more reasonable than the high cost to individual Americans would be without the act in place. Liberals support the Affordable Care Act because it has given more than 20 million Americans health care coverage and the uninsured rate has been cut almost in half.
