Traditionally, Indigenous men were taught to hunt animals for their consumption, this required an athleticism and a build alternative ethnicities lack. As these physical traits are inherited as each generation reproduces, the modern descendants must discover an alternative way to utilise their abilities, as the need to hunt has been extinguished amongst society. The Australian Football League is the pre-eminent professional sporting competition that Australia hosts, which requires a form of strength and speed that the Aboriginal males are often naturally gifted with. At current – due to it’s colossal fan base – the AFL campaign produces the largest income, opposed to any other sporting competition in Australia. With seventy-four of it’s athletes being of Indigenous heritage, in addition the formulation of the infamous ‘Indigenous Round’, which can be deemed responsible for the creation of an extended fan base, the Aboriginal culture contributes largely to the success of this industry (AFL, 2016).
This foreshadows the dissatisfaction expressed later when he reveals that historians before 1960 had largely ignored interactions between settlers and indigenous peoples, therefore ‘providing no material…to understand the nature of contemporary relations between black and white Australians’. Thus, readers can appreciate how personal experiences allow Reynolds to create an evocative representation of racial politics, as his knowledge of ongoing

Fred is keen to assist him in pursuing his hockey ambition, which is typical of family behavior. By representing a more modern approach to Indigenous identity, Fred Kelly pushes Saul to pursue hockey as a method of achievement in a white-dominated environment. " Just keep your stick on the ice and your feet moving. Time will take care of itself." (210).
e 1 Over the June and July holidays I was fortunate to be able to attend an all-expenses paid trip to visit and experience Melbourne University, as a Melbourne University student. The university holds a five day experience camp. The camp is called Murrup Barak Experience Camp and is for Indigenous year eleven and year twelve students throughout Australia. The objectives of the Murrup Barak Experience Camp is so year eleven and year twelve students can experience living in a university campus, learn about the courses and subjects open to students and to meet staff members, faculty members and current Indigenous university students.
The history of Aboriginal alienation was an important context that assisted Silvey in the making of his novel, and furthermore establishing a successful play. The year 2009 was an influential year for Aboriginal’s rights. After twenty years of negotiation, the United Nations
Oodgeroo Noonuccal’s non-traditional view of Australia in ‘An Appeal’ shows how stereotypes of Australia are not always correct. The poem shows how camaraderie and mateship are not always expressed in Australian lifestyle. It is evident in the poem that not all Australians help each other to get through tough times and Australia is divided into different groups of people and is not equal. ‘An appeal’ shows how the nation stands up for themselves and fight for what is right against the power of the ‘not really’ authoritative people of Australia. The concept of inequality is a crucial part of Oodgeroo Noonuccal’s poem ‘An Appeal’.
I weaved through the busy streets of Melbourne trying to find my way. Many people filled the city, businessmen, workers, retailers and homeless. They were ignored by everyone who passed them, no one bore to even look at them. I myself too walked past, and slowed down. Their faces, covered with distress and great agony, they were pleading for help.
Australian culture is based upon an aggressive form of self-imposed conformity, which viciously attacks anyone who is deemed unique. Contrary to the promoted ideals of mateship, having a fair go, and egalitarianism, Australia does in fact function under a subconsciously discriminatory system that vilifies ‘outsiders’ who threaten the status quo. The documentary The Australian Dream directed by Daniel Gordon released in 2019 and the novel After Darkness by Christine Piper published in 2014 both represent this toxic culture in different ways. While the documentary shows the dehumanisation of AFL player Adam Goodes because of his calling out of racism towards Indigenous players, After Darkness deals with the more complex issue of Japanese internment

Introduction Embryonic stem cells are a large focus of study, especially in the biomedical and scientific world. These undifferentiated, pluripotent cells are highly controversial and has become a popular topic for debates. The embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized in an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) clinic. While these stem cells have many potential and positive abilities, like regenerating tissues and holding possible cures for diseases, there is a dark side to them. Many problems involving embryonic stem cells have already begun to arise.
This is catastrophic. Hazel fears being alone so much that she opens her ears to what others have to say about her worth and value. Hazel’s identity lies in the words of her peers, “good sport.” This leads her to the brink of destruction.
The descriptive language, “cheap, exotic food” even tries to ridicule the cultural food which migrants were expected to prepare for the Australians. “Cheap, exotic food” is a connotation for unsatisfactory food. “Feed the mainstream”, hints that regardless of a migrant’s new identity, they were still considered as different from the majority. The quote, “We’ve given you opportunity for family reunion, equality, and status, though your colour could be wrong” uses racial imagery to create a picture in the audience’s mind of the “incorrect” coloured Australians. This statement maintains the concept of migrants never being able to be fully considered Australian.
Language is used to establish the characters Australian heritage through their slang and speaking patterns; “Other times it’s a few to the gut and presto…” “Oh bloody wonderful”– Jonah (pages 113 and 125). Writing techniques are used to develop the characters along with the theme. Similes and comparisons are used on multiple occasions throughout the
2.1 LCA model Life cycle assessment (LCA) is an effective tool for quantifying the environmental burden of products, processes or services during their life cycle from cradle to grave (ISO, 2006). Various LCA studies have been conducted in the energy and environment fields. LCA approaches can be divided into three: process-based LCA, IO LCA, and hybrid LCA. The process-based LCA requires information on energy, material, and resource inputs and environmental outputs for each stage in the product life cycle.
