The 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott was a success in bringing equality among the racial segregation within buses and bus stations. One day in 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for not moving when she was told to, which led to the call of boycotting against buses. Afterwards, African Americans gathered together and made a stance in refusing to ride buses as a protest against the unfair treatments they have endured on the buses (Document 2). Despite breaking black discriminating laws, they followed a nonviolent approach during their protest, which developed a progress toward equality. In addition, many blacks decided to avoid buses overall by finding different methods of transportation after the police started harassing the black taxi drivers.
The Brown v Board of Education and the lynching of Emmitt Till fueled the Civil Right Movement to continue to challenge segregation, the Montgomery bus Boycott in Alabaman took years of planning by black communities, black colleges and the Women political Council (WPC) and the NAACP to start challenging segregation. The mayor of was ask by WPC to end segregating in the buses but the plead fell on deaf ears. The first Attempt was on Mach 2, 1955 with Claudette Colvin a 15 year-old student, was asked to give up her sit for a white man, she would not give up her sit. The police were called to remove her and allegedly assaulted the arresting police officer. For this reason, Colvin was not used to challenge segregation in the buses.
During the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s, shifts in the political and societal views were very apparent. Through out the time era, we saw figures of great importance and the strength of activists are its highest. The build up of severe racism and discrimination led to the beginning of the civil rights era, which led to several divides in blacks, as well as a beginning of a more enriched society.. The Civil Rights era had several key events leading up to the full force of the movement - including bus boycotts, Freedom Riders, and the Little Rock Nine. Once the movement began to increase in involvement, many supporters were gained.

This is a southern custom that blacks give their seats to white passengers towards the front of the bus and blacks either stand or move to the back. Rosa Parks was thrown in jail, so this required African Americans to take charge and begin The Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott lasted for over a year with blacks refusing to ride the city buses, which showed unity and determination among the black community. While the bus boycott was developing, Martin Luther King Jr. emerged as a leader with many unique skills.
Rosa Parks’ actions would alter the dynamics of the Civil Rights Movement in ways that were previously unknown before. In 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up to the white passenger. This event became known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott because it caused an uproar in the community. It is important because the entire African American community in Montgomery, Alabama united behind Rosa Park and supported her by boycotting the bus system. African Americans chose to walk to work or car pool with each other rather than ride the bus.
(Roark, P. 924) What set civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s apart from earlier acts of black protest was its widespread presence in the South, with a large number of people involved, their willingness to confront the white institutions directly and the use of non-violent protests and civil disobedience to bring about change. The arrest of Rosa Parks in December 1955 is probably the most famous example of this. The African Americans boycotted the bus system in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Montgomery bus boycott lasted a full year. (Roark, p. 924) These were good tactics.
[1] The first and perhaps the most important event that gave legitimacy to the civil rights movement in the United States occurred in December of 1955. This event, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, was a protest against the policy of mandated racial segregation on the public transit system of Montgomery, Alabama. This boycott lasted from December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her set to a white passenger, until December 20, 1956 when a Supreme Court Ruling, Browder v. Gayle, took effect and outlawed segregation on public transportation. This Supreme Court ruling marked the first of many successes of the Civil Rights Movement. However, there was still much work to be done not only in the Black Belt region of Alabama, but nationwide.
Board didn't bring about school desegregation, the ruling (and the steadfast opposition to it throughout the South) fueled and led to the initiation of the civil rights movement. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955, a year after Brown v. Board of Education. When she was arrested, the Montgomery bus boycott began, and other boycotts, sit-ins and demonstrations followed (many of them led by Martin Luther King Jr.), leading to the fall of Jim Crow laws. After overturning the "separate but equal" doctrine in Brown v. Board of Education, the Court set a precedent for overturning segregation laws elsewhere. Even though the historic verdict had a lot of impact, it didn't achieve its main goal of integrating the nation's schools.
During the Civil Rights Movement African American were the ones in risk of being killed. Yes, everybody is in risk of being killed by natural disasters, but not everybody during that time were at endanger of being killed because of their race and beliefs. This is the reasons why we fight for our lives as African Americans because we were and still are discriminated by, disrespected, racially profiled, and killed for no reason on a daily basis. The police couldn’t do anything but stand there, because they couldn’t call anybody on themselves.
The Fourteenth Amendment was being challenged. As a result In Brown v. Board of Education (1954), the Supreme Court of The United States defined the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas’s discrimination and segregation toward Brown’s daughter as unconstitutional and demand all public schools in America be desegregated ("Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka" 347 U.S. 483). Although the Supreme Court said all public schools need to be desegregated, the process is very long due to President Dwight D. Eisenhower's fear of losing the white southern vote. In 1955, Rosa Louise McCauley Parks got on a bus but refused to give the seat to a white person; she was arrested for this incident. As a response to this, African American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior started the Bus Boycott which forced the bus line Rosa Parks got arrested to be desegregated.
Rosa parks, a fierce activist, refused to let a white man take her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. This sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, crusaded mostly by ordinary black maids. In solidarity with the boycott, Black women would walk miles everyday to clean middle class houses. This was most effective during the 1950s because this is when the american dream was formulated. The dichotomy of a country that sold the image of having a nice life in a nice house with a nice job also fostering a suffering people was overwhelmingly blatant.
The African-American Civil Rights Movement encompasses social movements in the United States whose goals were to end racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans and to secure legal recognition and federal protection of the citizenship rights enumerated in the constitutional amendments adopted after the Civil War. The strategy of public education, legislative lobbying, and litigation that had typified the Civil Rights Movement during the first half of the 20th century broadened after Brown to a strategy that emphasized "direct action:" primarily boycotts, sit-ins, Freedom Rides, marches and similar tactics that relied on mass mobilization, nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience. This mass action approach typified the movement from 1960 to 1968. Churches, local grassroots organizations, fraternal societies, and black-owned businesses mobilized volunteers to participate in broad-based actions.
After Rosa parks refused to give her seat to white passenger and was arrested. The black people decided to launch a boycott. It denoted all of African Americans walked instead of riding a bus. The boycotters hoped the bus companies would lose money and be forced to abandon their segregation policy. After a year bus boycott, a unit state’s District Court ruling in Browder V. Gayle banned racial segregation on all Montgomery public buses.
In our country’s history, there have been plenty of periods in which we faced tragedy, loss, and destruction. While we always overcome, not all of us do. For some Americans, these tragedies have a far more compelling impact, affecting their chance at survival and success. For black Americans, since the beginning of their time in this country, there have been multiple events that challenged their rights as humans let alone citizens, but their drive and resilience towards freedom and equality to what is rightfully theirs prevails. The civil rights era of the 1950s ,though it did bring many accomplishments for African Americans through their relentlessness to overthrow racial segregation and discrimination, also heightened the tension of those
Unbenounced to her, Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat to a white man ignited one of the largest and most successful mass movements in opposition to racial segregation in history. At a time when African Americans experienced racial discrimination from the law and within their own communities on a daily basis, they saw a need for radical change and the Montgomery bus boycott helped push them closer to achieving this goal. Unfortunately, much of black history is already excluded from textbooks, therefore to exclude an event as revolutionary to the civil rights movement as this one would be depriving individuals of necessary knowledge. The Montgomery bus boycott, without a doubt, should be included in the new textbook because politically
