Through my research, I was able to discover that the library indeed had all the necessary tools I need to do this assignment. I normally do most of my research online or compare notes of what my professors have said in class but the library seems to just as resourceful or even a better resource than I believed it would be. During my research in the Library, I was able to gather information from books, audio devises, and also through videos. I first started my research in the book titled African American Music: a chronology : 1619-1995. This book gives a great list of achievements in African American music and art over a period of almost 400 years. This book is divided into eight chapter exploring every genre of the African American music. It goes from the time period of songs created during the time of slavery up until they reach the 90’s music which deals with new media. This was my most helpful from of resource. This audio took me on a musical adventure from Beethoven up to the late 20th century describing great musicians and their work. The video reference that I watched for this project is Dvořák To Duke Ellington: A Conductor Explores America's Music And Its African American Roots. This book educated me on how much the African American music has been the root to many musical genres. It goes deeper into the text when the author describes how the African American music has even influence the very same individuals that enslaved them, the European Americans. The musical term I used that deals with African-American music is the music genre, Rhythm and Blues. My African American music textbook describes Rhythm and Blues as a form of Black dance music that evolved during the World War II era and the two decades that followed as a fusion of blues, big band swing, gospel, and pop elements.
