I believe that racism and discrimination cannot be eradicated from society. Two examples of groups that are discriminated against are African Americans and Japanese Americans. Racism and discrimination are things we are not born believing in. In my opinion, they are things that people do based on the actions of others. It is almost like a form of mirror neuron reaction, or “monkey-see, monkey-do.” Mirror neuron reaction is seeing something and doing the same. People aren’t born racist. It is something they pick up. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, they were put in “relocation centers”. These camps were prison camps where the government put the Japanese Americans. They were cramped and uncomfortable. They were also unclean, and had no heat and little water. They were discriminated against by the whites and they were discriminated against because of the attack. They were also thought of as dangerous. After almost 50 years, congress gave $20,000 to about 80,000 survivors. Ronald Reagan formally apologized to the families, but the scar of the event is still on the lives of many. The discrimination of this group has ended and society hasn’t done anything to make their discrimination start again. As I said before, I believe that racism and discrimination are things that will never go away. They will always be apart of our human nature. Children will see adults and follow the lead of the adults.
