The intention of the African Diaspora Chain Mentorship Program is to empower individuals to aim for higher education, gain leadership skills, and develop professional characteristics in order to become leaders of their perspective communities. This mentorship program highly emphasizes the importance of education, sharing resources and knowledge; modeling the historical ancestry saying “each one, teach one”. Thus ADCMP will use undergraduate students as the core element for the establishment, expansion and transformation of the organization. Undergraduate students are expected to mentor one another, as upperclassmen will be mentoring incoming first year students. It is important that we focus on retaining black students here on campus, as our presence here on UCSC campus is scarce and lack of representation is a daily challenge black students encounter. In addition, ADCMP will work to increase the percentage of black students here on campus. We plan to accomplish this goal by collaborating with several black organizations on campus and demanding what we feel is necessary. …show more content…

That is, from black students attending the school, to black faculty and staff members whom are employed by the university. This has a direct and indirect effect on the condition, adaption, achievement and growth of black students on campus. Black students lack the necessary resources to achieve and succeed, this is not new and is a reflection of the fraud educational system that is biased and unfair. Thus, the creation of ADCMP is a reflection of this reality and an attempt to empower our communities by making it possible for young people to envision higher education and make it possible for them to achieve their desires and
