The root of any country’s prosperous future is their youth. It has been fairly stated that young people are the future of tomorrow. And this characteristic is based on the way they capture their education, the quality of their training, and the outcomes of that training. With America being one of the world’s major powers, one must ask whether there is any system of teaching which furnishes the information for each individual to make it a better America for tomorrow. But the testing has made the life of students more miserable. In article “Parents see Testing Distorting Impact” author mentions that “ More and more, I am seeing disaffected parents who are both frustrated and alarmed by the outside influence examination preparation and administration is having on their children’s daily lives” ( Johnson 22). Also the testing has created big hype. It has not only made students life miserable but also has made teachers and parents’ life miserable too. It not only evaluates the students but also evaluates teachers. The grants of the schools and teachers are based on the performance of the students. This has made the whole education system go to the path of standardized testing. Rather than thinking about the benefits and learning of the education it has more focused now on an individual’s performance. If the students do not get good grades the school would not be able to get good grants and also the teachers might have to lose their job or they will not be given salary hikes. This makes parents taking their children away from the school. In article “Testing, Testing” author mentions that “Sixty eight percent of the parents now say that high-stakes testing is not helping their children’s education” (Christian Century, 1). It also talks about common core standards, which were developed to help students. It makes a big difference when common core standards become part of curriculum.
