As students in High School, there is always a way to trigger stress and pressure whether it be by homework, social status or testing. However, there seems to be a debate when it comes to testing, especially when it’s standardized testing. Ever since the No Child Left Behind act was put in place, American students all over the nation have either given up on school or have found it too difficult to survive in. There never seems to be an end to the controversy if the tests should continue to be in place or if they should be taken out all together. One person had stated that without standardized testing, “ parents and students alike wouldn’t know that they’re behind on the reading and other subjects in school.” (Almagor). Parents who say that their child gets good grades and does everything in their power to maintain their good GPA are unsure as to how far behind their child may be. However, even if the standardized testing is mandatory, it doesn’t necessarily help children advance in school. As Lyndsey Layton has said, parents are forming opt-out groups to stand against standardized testing. Parents don’t want to see their child stressed about a test that seems to dictate if they are even eligible to attend college. Stress is very unhealthy for a teen to ever have to worry about, and there doesn’t seem to be an ending to it if the students have to bare through it for 10 years. Others believe that if their child takes a standardized test, they can see where their child is at and improve in certain areas, however it is said that if you focus more in one part of education and neglect the others, they will still be weak in the areas that they used to be strong
