Age Limit on Running for President
In the most recent elections in the United States, we have had our oldest candidates in history. These two oldest are Donald Trump who entered office being 70 years old and then Joe Biden came in at age 78. These two presidents have shown us that there must be some type of change in the requirements. An age limit should be implemented as a requirement to run for president to ensure that the United States has the best future. The age limit would help since as we grow older our brains get weaker and slower. Being in office we need someone who is at the peak of their intellect. The president is also carrying the future generations that need to learn to adapt to the current problems, but the older generation tends to shape the future to be like the past. The age requirement to run for president should be 25-65 to ensure the best results and leadership.
Research has shown that, just like the body, the brain gets weaker as we age. Our brains get smaller and that causes us to process things much slower. In the article Yes, You Get Wiser with Age by Victor Gomes he brings up many great points about getting wiser as you grow older. The thing that stuck out to me the most was when he said “Wisdom is a balance between cognition and emotion. It’s a balance between selfishness and prosocial behavior” (Gomes). Wisdom can change depending on what one has gone through and what their intentions in life are. Although wisdom is a great thing it is not all that makes a president.
