The book explores the feeling and experience of one 's later years: when one feels both cut off from the past and out of step with the present; when the body starts to give up but the mind becomes more passionate than ever. The book offers a wide vision of the issues that we go throughout our lives: the struggle to achieve goodness; how to maintain individuality in a mass society; and how to emerge out of suffering, loss, and limitation and so on. The book is an important contribution to the literature of aging, and of living. Scott-Maxwell’s book is compelling.

Young @ Heart There are countless known stereotypes that allude to senior citizens; many people believe: senior citizens are lazy, isolated and in poor health, the list could go on and on. The documentary Young @ Heart totally eliminates these stereotypes and discards many of the misconceptions people have towards senior citizens. Aging is a journey one which leads to really find and become comfortable with our true selves. As I age and as I watch my grandmother age, I have realized that time has a way of changing people. What think was impossible to conquer becomes possible over time. The material possessions that we once value just become small things. What matters the most is family and our faith.
Americans are living too long. They are trying to prolong life and delay death. One such person, Ezekiel Emanuel wrote "Why I Hope to Die at 75," and he argues that living too long is a loss (1). He is stating that he does not like this trend. Emanuel does not hope to extend his life as long as possible.
Ageing is something that can be split up into many groups like aa variety of things in society. Older people can be categorized into the young-old, the middle-old and, the old-old. That last one seems ridiculous to me. People in each of these groups are generally happier in this time period rather that the previous one because the United states has given the resources for us to be more prepared for aging. Also nowadays people can start planning for their retirements before they even think about getting old.
With the undeniable truth, everyone must age and grow older. Although this is a natural process of life, not everyone is accepting of this. At this age, being an older adult you face difficulties such as aging, sexuality, relationship dynamics and having to face reality that you are not in your prime as you once were. Heart attacks, strokes, and other ailments are examples of this. However, just as there younger counterparts they still able to do somethings they were able to do in their earlier stages.

The media often reinforces two extreme stereotypes of older adults. One extreme stereotype shows the negative aspects by highlighting that old age is plagued by illness and a high dependence on others. The other extreme stereotype highlights the seniors that are doing exceptionally well by showing that they are completely independent, finally stable, and maintained a youthful look and persona. These portrayals do not represent the life challenges and successes of the mass majority of aging adults. Older adults are rarely represented in the media, so how they are represented truly matters to their overall image and approach to aging.
He alludes to the idea that the cost of elderly is increasing rapidly by using sarcasm to point to the idea that America is greedy and not aware of the economic problems caused by the elderly and by doing so he proposes a way to solve these problems. Cohen includes “an early form of retirement: extermination” and the possibilities such as “unmatched economic prosperity”. He proposes an idea filled with sarcasm to pick on the U.S. for its way of solving large economic problems with useless solutions such as early retirement programs. (Colin 1) The sarcastic tone of Cohen to the audience is to evoke a form of change and encourage those to find a better way to deal with the elderly no longer as burdens while at the same time criticizing and past ideas that have becomes useless.
As a physician, I would work with my patients so that they do not fear age, but rather welcome it. I want to effectively educate my patients so they may willingly choose to lead healthy lives and ultimately extend their days left in this world with their loved ones. I hope that as a caregiver, I am able to help my patients realize that a long, healthy life is far more fulfilling than a short, glamorous one.

Late Adulthood is the stage of the human life cycle where an individual nears the end of their life. The life expectancy in the United States has slowly increased over the years therefore allowed many to further analyze the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development during late adulthood. My older population observational hours allowed me to realize that the elderly are active members of society and have a lot of wisdom to offer to the younger generations. I got to listen to great stories from a great person that I met at a local restaurant. I wouldn’t have imagined the astonishing life experiences people from can go through and now more than ever, I feel grateful for my family and our wellbeing. Getting older is something to look forward to since it’s just a misconception that as you age, you lose your happiness. I now understand that getting older means having more time to enjoy hobbies and family, which bring true happiness to your life.
