A problem that I would like to be solved and have currently been working on solving is aging out of foster care successfully. Aging out of foster care is when a person turns ages 18 or 21 in certain states and is no longer a part of the state's foster care system. “Adolescents typically age out of foster care on their 18th birthday although a number of states extended the age of emancipation to 21 which permit youth to remain in foster care for up to three more years” (“HUD Marks National Foster Care”). This means the state or the family will no longer pay to take care of him or her with the state’s money. The maltreatment that foster children face have a negative on them just like it would any other child. But the difference is other children who aren't in foster care have a family support team. Older foster youth face many hardships such as, inadequate educational preparation, unstable finances, and limited access to viable employment and housing opportunities”(“Aging Out Of Foster Care:”1). Only slightly more than half of these young people have graduated from high school, compared with 85 percent of all youth eighteen to twenty-four years old--One in four males and one in ten females have spent time in jail” (Swift, n.p.). Due to the statistic I created a resource book to be shared with foster children who are aging out to help accomplish their goals and dreams. I started by doing interview so see what is it like to begin the aging out process and where did they see themselves in 3-5 years. In the resource book I listed local program and many state programs because I figured the best way to identify the solution was to reach the foster children that are in my city and
