At first, the NGO named Wellcome Trust supported him for his work on mental illness. Moreover, Patel worked for Wellcome Trust nearly 15 years and continue his support for many NGOs like the Public Health Foundation of India, the Centre for Mental Health in New Delhi and became the leader for the Movement of Global Mental Health. Patel contributes his mental healthcare work at low-resources communities and stated that around 90% of people are affected by mental illness; waiting for the good psychiatrists. Patel research also proved that evidence- based treatment for mental illness treatment was given by non-specialist health workers in many under developed countries.
