LOE #4 addresses the Army Profession. The first supporting objective is to promote and strengthen a professional culture of trust. Promoting a fundamental change in the culture through stewardship and esprit de corps programs is one of the key tasks in accomplishing this. Esprit de corps programs will give the warrant officers a feeling that they have a higher personal stake in the game and a heightened sense of responsibility to sustain and improve the warrant officer corps. By making a concerted effort to build these programs, the Army can foster an environment where the warrant officers take ownership of the corps.

To talk about the United States Army’s customs and courtesies I need to talk about the army culture and everything tied with it. They both go hand in hand in developing and sustaining professionalism and discipline within the organization. To start, What is esprit de corps? Esprit de corps is the winning spirit within the Army Profession, embedded in the culture, sustained by traditions and customs, which fosters cohesive and confident units with the courage to persevere. In short it is the spirit that fosters teamwork, cohesion, cooperation, and loyalty.
Our founding fathers based our nation upon certain core values. These values prompted men to take up arms to not obtain but defend them as well requiring some to make the ultimate sacrifice. These core values are liberty, individualism, equality and self-government. The pilgrims, the earliest settlers, came to this continent to pursue religious liberty since they were persecuted by government officials.
I find many Common roots between Army values, custom, and norms that I grew up with which define me as the person that I am, values such as Loyalty, Respect, Honor and Integrity. Over the course of six years serving in the United States Army I learn and achieves so much that, I falling love with it and Army become very important element in my life, which has the highest level of priority in my life. I will never hesitate to sacrifices my life to protect and defend United States of America, Constitution and United State Army just like the one I do for my family and I will do everything in my power to serve in the way that best benefit Army interest. I Leads others in the Army with set myself as an example, armed myself with warrior ethos, live with the Army Values, and maintain my military bearing in the highest standard level.
I have been in the U.S Navy for about seven years now. The Navy has changed me from a person who cares nothing other than family and friends to become a person who lives by the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment. I'm now a person who is not only caring for family and friends but also caring for others who I have never known. The core values of honor, courage, and commitment stand for all that is Navy. Being honest and truthful in our dealings with each other, and with those outside the Navy embodies honor.

Many seem to over emphasize the many privileges gained as an officer and seem to completely overlook the ever more important duties that should be the true motivators. I must ensure to maintain this mindset. I must also remember to put “people first”. (Department of Defense, 1988) This will be a cornerstone in every decision I make.

In this phase, it mostly involves the performance of military duties in support of the mission either overseas or within the United States. These military duties revolve around the soldiers’ loyalty, respect and personal courage. The soldiers have the responsibility to defend the US Constitution but they are also expected to be loyal to their fellow soldiers, unit and army as a whole. They have to help other soldiers in need especially when on the battlefield. They should also respect their fellow soldiers and those of higher ranks.
Leaders must apply the Army Values when leading soldiers because of the fact that it builds trust and a bond. The same goes for the soldiers, in order for them both to work as an effective team and to get the mission done efficiently they both must live by these values. Once these values are integrated in a soldier’s lifestyle, it becomes too easy to work as a unit. An example on how loyalty and respect fits in a day to day to situation would be, a soldier witnessing a misunderstanding with his or her team leader and a higher ranking NCO, the soldier knows that his or her team leader is in the right. The soldier shows loyalty by standing by their team leader and shows respect by approaching both their team leader and the higher ranking NCO with tact to explain the situation from their understanding and what they witnessed.
