Entering the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program, it taught me the core values to become a strong leader. Before I joined the program, I was an introvert person and did not assert myself when problem arises. Furthermore, I did not do any physical activities or sports due to the fear of making mistakes and stepping out of my comfort zone. However, the AFROTC program done a great job to make me a person that I could not believe. The first trial of the program begins with the physical training expectation of the cadets. The cadets are expected to attend two of their session and one personal section to help cadet pass the Air Force’s physical fitness test. I was forced to get up at 5 am, different from my regular 9am, to attend the session on time. When the training session started, I struggled to do the basic form of exercises. I could not do pushups, sit ups, and a 1.5 mile run. I had achieved around 10 pushups and sit ups and completed the run in 20 minutes. With that score I would have failed the test …show more content…
There are trainers and commissioned officer preparing cadets to become future leaders of the Air Force. The thought of a weak, quiet, and frighten person like me to go through this was a nightmare. Despite my awful performance, it taught me a valuable lesson. Mary Anne Radmacher quote “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is a quiet voice at the end of the day saying “I will try again tomorrow”. The AFROTC program taught me you can’t be a leader without making any mistakes. People are going to make mistakes and it is natural. It is what you learn from those mistakes that can make a difference on the individual. I put myself out there knowing the fact that I will fail to reach my goals but I accepted that it better to do something than to do nothing at all.
