America did not stay dry for long, secret saloons called speakeasies had started appearing across America. Before prohibition there were 15,000 saloons and after prohibition the amount of speakeasies there were were 32,000. Factors that had led up to this were public opinion, unenforced law and unpatrolled import and export, however the main cause that had lead up to the repealing of prohibition was organized crime who had snuck in and brewed illegal alcohol to distribute across the U.S.A the government and the anti-saloon league saw that prohibiting alcohol had failed and had only made bootleggers and brewers
