Capone was charged with 22 counts of tax fraud. His gang was charged with 5,000 separate violations. Most of the witnesses was afraid to testify but the ones who did like I said before went into witness protection. When the press found out about this they was out raged. Capone was really cocky when he thought all he would get for all of the charges was 5 years. He was less cocky when he realized they wouldn’t take his plea bargain and then he knew he would get more than five years. Everyone knew that Al Capone’s men would bribe the jury to say he’s not guilty so the judge changed out the jury for another one in the court room. Al was stunned and so was his lawyer because they thought they had the case in the bag and then it hit them that he was going down. It was a long 9 hour discussion on October 17, 1931 they found Al Capone guilty on counts of tax envision and was sentenced to 11 years in prison with no bail.
