When he was in Highschool he was an excellent student and an even better football player. He is six-feet-two and very muscular. Darry was super popular in Highschool and had many friends. “He was captain of the football team and he had been voted Boy of the year. But we just didn't have the money for him to go to college, even with the athletic scholarship he won”(Hinton, 16).
This shows that he takes the time to truly think about his team and where they need to be placed in order to perform their best. We are also able to see how Coach Ulbrickson views other athletes besides Joe. He speaks very highly of Bobby Moch, how perfect he is for his position and how well he executes it. In both “The Boat” and Brooklyn, the families are torn between several incidents or situations that occur during them. Conflict an occur frequently between families or friends when difficult situations rise to the surface. The stress that occurs during these stories shows the tension between staying home or leaving in the book Brooklyn, as well as in “The Boat.” In this essay I will discuss some parts of the stories that showed tension that has occured in the short story and the book as well. Especially, I will discuss the difficulty the boy had to endure, and how his choices impacted his future relationship with his parents.

"Running for His Life" In the story "Running for His Life", Michael Hall explains the genocide Gilbert Tuhabonye experienced when he was in high school in East Africa and how he managed to escape and relive his life in Austin, Texas. Tuhabonye's teachers and the Tutsi teenagers were burned alive and beaten to death by friends of theirs. A couple of students tried eluding, but we're caught and killed by the killers. The building was on fire, burning corpses, and burning to death any students who remained alive.
If we were to look back, the leader or coach we respect most is the one who pushed us to be that greatest that we could be. Although we did not like being pushed at the time, being told we could give more is often what teams need in order to succeed. Herb Brooks pushed his players to believe that they had greatness within them. His players, including many other people did not believe at first. But his players later came to believe because their coach believed.
In the book The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown, the author tells the story of the 1936 Olympic team. The coach for the 1936 Olympic team is Al Ulbrickson. Some argue that he is harsh and inefficient in the way that he coaches because he switches the boys to different boats. However Coach Al Ulbrickson is a good coach because he is very clever, if he wasn't clever the boys would not be on the Olympic team, Coach Al Ulbrickson is also a quiet coach. Coach Al Ulbrickson is a clever coach, if he wasn't clever he wouldn't push the freshmen boys to try to make the Olympic team.
John Wooden was a coach for the UCLA basketball team, his teachings to the players were very controversial to the fans because of his focus on the process and improvement of the team members. Wooden is a renowned basketball coach due to the rare advice he would give the players; this allowed him to keep his players focused and disciplined through the season. He would mainly work on the players ability to be unparalleled to their opponents because he pushed them to be in the best condition possible. In Wooden’s career he had precise language while giving speeches, devotion to the method of coaching, and pushing the players to play at their best ability at all times. The 1980 Olympic hockey team achieved a victory against the greatest odds in sports history. Everyone said they would not even get to the final, let alone beat one of the best teams of all time. Herb Brooks, the head coach of the team, had an unorthodox way of coaching. It was different than how he had coached all of his other teams in the past.

In this case, George chooses between shooting Lennie or letting him face justice for unintentionally killing curley's wife. George’s choice to kill Lennie was wrong, despite the purpose behind his action. All throughout our lives, we are challenged with many tough questions. Each question shows us with an ethical predicament in which we must choose between good or bad.
For example by working in the fields with members form his team and meeting their families in their homes he was able to show warmth and empathy. In order to do this he had to learn to be sensitive to cultural differences and learn first-hand why a lot of the parents needed their children to work in the fields, how important family and community is, and how to enable some of his team members to make time for both their job and cross country. By the end of the movie, Coach White was a leader who led by example. When he forgot his daughter’s birthday, he looked to his community for guidance and gave her a birthday she would not forget. He was not afraid to go out in the fields and work as hard as the boys he coached and helped them believe that they could do anything the set their minds
