In the “Bethel School District v. Fraser” case, Fraser believed that the school violated his first amendment “freedom of speech” rights. Fraser gave a speech with some inappropriate content in it and the school gave him a three day suspension because two teachers warned him before he gave the speech. Fraser took it to court and the justices said they would shorten the suspension and let him have his right to speak at graduation because the school was taking away his freedom of speech.

Books are an essential way to gain knowledge whether they are controversial or not. While that once was a problem in the United States, book banning has taken a tactical, less obvious form of censorship and it is mostly in schools. It’s not a stranger to anyone that middle and high schools have required reading lists that name several books students will have to read for the academic school year. The books can range from anything, [research and look up book names here], and are often stock packed with various themes, lessons, and messages. One more reason I believe banning books are wrong is because, you get more choices. Librarians say that they want kids to have as many reading choices as possible, but by them banning books they can have as many options to pick what they interested in. However, if kids get interested in a series and it is banned in their school library because it is more “mature” that gives the limited options. Some people say that racial slurs are why they ban some books, but most kids are gonna learn about racial slurs in their social studies class anyway.

Lots of parents and businesses think that books should be banned, do you? I am for banning books because I feel that books should not talk about homosexuality, drugs, alcohol, smoking, nudity etc. Books should be banned due to bad language and bad content. I feel like bad words shouldn 't be allowed in books because kids learn things from books and if it has bad words and bad content in them unfortunately kids will learn inappropriate things. Intro 1: What if your young child is looking through a book at your public library and comes across a topic that was way too mature for their mind set. Would you be okay with it? A big controversial issue that has been going on in the past year is if books should be banned. Now, no one is trying to banish libraries across the globe but people have requested to ban books that are inappropriate. This matter has grown to be worse because everyone has an opinion.
At one point in time, over 7,220 books have been challenged to be banned. Though these books have been removed for the safety of children, not all books should be banned for many reasons. These include the fact that banning books is infringing on the First Amendment, keeping children from understanding the real world, and, even though there are many reasons for book banning, not banning books could help a student’s education and can even work against itself. Banning a book from a school or public library could go against a person’s First Amendment of the freedom of press.
