Albany Law School was introduced to me at a Western New York Law School in Amherst, New York in Fall 2013. The recruiters of this institution peeked my interest with the programs offered by the school, the percentage of successful students and the ability to work with amazing attorney’s during clinical. Criminal Law is the concentration that I am most interested in and I know that this institution has an excellent Criminal Law program. As an undergraduate student my field of study was Criminal Justice and a second major in history, and in May 2014 I earned my Bachelor’s degree. My course load included criminal law, the police process, criminal courts, criminal theory and ideologies as well a range of other supporting courses. These included a range of topics that has enhanced my understanding of the criminal justice system and its functionality. Insight was provided to the number of changes that need to occur to have a better criminal justice system. A few of the changes include mandatory sentencing and the disparity in race between the minority and the Caucasian population. I had the ability to receive some knowledge from the attorney’s as well as the presiding judge on the intricacies of the criminal justice system. This first hand experience will be helpful in pursuit of a Juris Doctor degree as well as progressing my career in the legal field. My second major in college was history, this helped me to develop my writing ad research skills, which will be a great advantage to have for law school.
