Discussion On January 30, 2017 an Alberta Clipper system came through. “Alberta Clipper” is what a system is called when low pressure forms in the Canadian Rockies and move quickly through the United States. This event moved through overnight and it was snowing in State College, Pa for about two hours. The “Super Bowl Sunday” storm left behind almost blinding snow bad road conditions. The date was February 4, 2014. This storm affected much of the northeastern United States. The snow can down hard and fast from the morning until about dusk. On February 7, 2018 a storm came through State College, Pa. The temperature started just below freezing and rose to just above freezing by the end. The precipitation type changed from snow to sleet to …show more content…
A major source of error was the way the thermometer was read. During the course of the experiment, the thermometer was buried in snow which could have insulated the instrument. This would be a systematic error. On February 4, humans kicked snow onto the snow board adding snow to the measurements. This would be a random error. When it was snowing hard, weigh was added to the scale not in the jar which effected the recorded weight. This was a systematic error. There was high difference in SLR at the observation site than what was recorded at the Myers weather center. One explanation is that the Myer Weather Center records LCL every 24 hours compared to the measurements taken in this experiment were taken every 30 minutes. This time gap allows for impaction, leading to a lower snow depth, and lower SLR. This is a systematic error. The most varied observed ice crystal habit occurred during the observation period on February 7, 2018. This was when we saw the temperature rise to above freezing. This cause the creation of multiple temperatures at which ice habits could develop. There was also an inversion leading to sleet and freezing rain to fall. Therefore, the warmer the temperature, the more variability of habits type and a lower
