Patel, Veronica CJ 340 Research Methods May 14, 2016 Alcohol vs. Greek Life Statement of Research: College students are the most vulnerable generation to drinking, going out and partying. However, students in Greek Life are targeted with a stereotype of being the party animals that get intoxicated the most during the week and weekend. This study proposed is to test whether college students who are part of the Greek community consume more alcohol a week compared to the average college student who is not. The goal of this research proposal is to test if alcohol consumption is correlated to being a Greek life member or not. Methodology: Theory: A theory is a “systematic explanation for the observed facts and laws that relate to a particular aspect of life” (Maxfield & Babbie, pg. 50). 15). The independent variable is Greek Life that is measured by a list of those that are registered in either Inter-fraternity Council or Panhelleic Council as active members. The second step of operationalization is measurement and attributes that dictate the scoring of the variable(lecture notes 2016). The nominal scale of the independent variable includes the question of are you a active member in a Inter-fraternity Council or Panhellenic Council and are you a college student.
