I attended an Alcoholics Anonymous group at Gateway Group within the community I reside. On arrival to the meeting I identified myself as instructed and state my reason for the visit. Immediately after I identify myself several individuals in the meeting had objections with me staying at the meeting because I did not state that I was an “alcoholic”. The group leader for this meeting asked for a vote in favor for all who wanted me the leave the session. The vote was in favor of me to stay with a seven to three vote, the individuals in favor for me to leave left the meeting. I attempted to leave the session on several different occasions because I felt uncomfortable that the members with alcoholic problem did not want me in there meeting. …show more content…
There were people from different backgrounds and ethics believes. The group varies from college graduates to some high school dropouts. I was not as opened minded that people with corporate jobs visits this kind of meeting, therefore I was amazed at the high level of members that function at there work place being a addict to alcohol and they approach used. During my group session I was focused on what the leader was teaching the addicts. They read step eight from their book. After everyone was finish reading, everyone would explain what there believe was. Step eight was based on how to make a list of people who they have hurt and apologize in order for them to move on. Although they were at step eight, there were people who could not past steps four. Step four was accepting that you hurt people. This two-chapter conflict with each other and group members was having a hard time understanding what is required of them. All members of the groups were on different levels of acceptance with who they are as a person and the process expectations. Although members on different levels and stages of steps, they all had the same commitment goal. They all accept who they are because prior to members speaking the have to state their names and admit their problems. For any member of the group to be able to handle the changes in their group, they must some knowledge about their group leading
