Religion is something that many people put their full faith and belief in. This is what the Oscar Winning documentary going clear: Scientology and the prison of belief by Alex Gibney also portrays that how people believe in Scientology as a religion but many also see it as a cult. The documentary showcases how Scientology affects the people and make them believe that it would help them with whatever problems they had. It was started just to earn money especially when referred to as a religion as it creates a sense of belief in people, which attracted them towards the organization and is shown in the documentary through interviews, conceptual reenactments, archival and home video footage.

Famous stars included Tom Cruise and John Travolta who also believed and promoted Scientology. This strategy really worked because whenever we see famous or mega stars associated with anything we get attracted to it and start following it more. They showed how they have helped them throughout and also honor them with titles to increase their popularity. In an article that I read related to the documentary it shows John Travolta’s reaction in which he’s said that he doesn’t really care with whatever is in the documentary about him although he was present at the premiere of the documentary. He also said that the organization helped him a lot through tough times. But the article also shows how Alex Gibeny wanted to get the message across about the reality of what happens in the church to both Tom Cruise and John Travolta.
