The Murdaugh family murders have to be one of the most intriguing and interesting stories that has happened in South Carolina maybe ever. The Murdaugh family, what many looked at as southern royalty due to their wealthy past, came crumbling down when father Alex Murdaugh killed his son Paul and wife Maggie. Firstly, what seems to be the start of the downfall was when oldest son Paul, was involved in a fatal boat crash accident. Paul was “charged in 2019 with drunkenly crashing a boat in an accident that killed one of his passengers, 19-year-old Mallory Beach, and injured several others”. Later in the investigation “His presence at the murder scene was uncovered thanks to a cellphone video taken by his son”. This video was taken by Paul of Alex at the kennels where Paul was shot and killed. This video comes only an hour before Paul was killed and in the video Alex was shown wearing a different shirt then what he was when police showed up. In addition “During his own testimony over two days, Mr. Murdaugh admitted that he was at the dog kennels the night of the murders, after previously telling investigators that he had not been there. Mr. Murdaugh said his lies were triggered by paranoia because of his longtime addiction to painkillers.” Once again the truth prevailed despite Alex best effort to twist the truth Finally the truth was starting to come furth. “Maggie Murdaugh, 52, was shot four or five times with a rifle, and 22-year-old Paul was shot twice with a shotgun. The murder weapons were not found.” The bullet casing however were matched with two guns Alex had previously in his possession. Then “the defense argued that the authorities conducted a shoddy investigation” because they failed to gather possible fingerprints and DNA samples from Paul and Maggie's clothing.
