You can call your friend hundreds of miles across the country or you can call for help. No one really thinks about how telephones became, we just expect them to be at the store when we want a new one. Alexander Graham Bell was a historic inventor. He invented the telephone and many other useful things; after the telephone, he funded and founded many foundations that are still popular today. He used a vacuum- jacket, which led to the idea and invention of the iron lung. Even though Thomas Edison tried to sue him, Bell helped him finish the phonograph. In 1890’s Bell and Edison started experimenting with airplanes and hydrofoil boats. Bell was able to assist the other scientist’s careers with all the money off the telephone. He started giving most of his time to the deaf and other communication devices. In 1880, Bell was given 50,000 francs, off the French award, the Volta Prize. With this money, he helped establish the Volta Laboratory for Invention, research, and deaf. Bell constantly worked with the deaf. He helped lip-reading become so popular and many other techniques. Bell funded and found the American Association to Promote the Teaching of Speech to the Deaf in 1890. Bell wanted to help President James Garfield by finding bullets in his veins. Bell continued doing odd experiments threw out his life. He wanted to turn vapor in the air into fresh water for the people sailing across the world.
