It is safe or nostalgic to say that it was incepted in Dearborn, MI. Ford has manufacturing plants in the United States, Mexico and Argentina to name just a few countries (Ford, Staff). The Ford Explorer debuted in 1990 starting with the “91” model. The base model of the Explorer was the XL and the top of the line model was the Eddie Bauer Edition. The Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was quite popular; in 1990, Ford sold 140,000 Explorers and twice as many in the following year. The Explorer was introduced as a replacement for the Ford Bronco II.
