This quote ties in together with the theme of the book because Hester Prynne’s husband had left her, leaving her clueless as to her not knowing if he would be back or not. As Chillingworth, Hester's husband, does this motion towards her, I feel like he is threatening her. The significance in this quote is Celie coming out of her shell and standing up for herself. Throughout her life she had been beaten down and given away to a man who could careless about her. He beat her, shoved her around, raped her, and enslaved her almost. Black women were the lowest on the scale of people of color and most women that were treated like Celie was would have never stood up for themselves.

Even though this quote is from Daisy to her daughter, I feel like it fits in with the theme very well.
This entire book seems to be based around this one girl, Daisy, and two guys she claims that she’s in love with.
