In “All Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr, the author tries to teach the world about the life of a blind person. People tend to have sympathy for the blind, but this analysis expresses that they have an imagination of their own and interpret the world differently. One instance where Doerr develops this idea is in Line 40, “On her ninth birthday, when she wakes, she finds two gifts. The first wooden box with no opening she can detect. She turns it this way and that. It takes her a little while to realize one side is spring-loaded; she presses it and the box flips open. Imagery is when the author uses a lot of description to give the audience a picture in their minds of what’s going on. One instance where Anthony Doerr uses imagery is in Line 26,”She has no memories of her mother but imagines her as white, a soundless brilliance. Her father radiates a thousand colors, opal, strawberry red, deep russet, wild green; a smell like oil and metal, the feel of a lock tumbler sliding home, the sound of his key rings chiming as he walks. He is an olive green when he talks to a department head, an escalating series of oranges when he speaks to Mademoiselle Fleury from the greenhouses, a bright red when he tries to cook.” The author is depicting how she uses colors to interpret things in her life, like her mom and dad for example. When the author says, “Her father radiates a lot of colors” he emphasizes the daughter’s love for her father. This is an example of imagery because it describes how she expresses her feelings towards her parents by colors. Imagery develops the main idea by showing how she sees the world without seeing the big things and the little things that surround her.
