This quote shows how the students are envious of the fact that Margot is going back to Earth soon, and how she will get to be in the sunlight.

The children of Venus became jealous of Margot due to her special opportunity to return to earth. Since the sun only comes out for 2 hours every 7 years, so it is obvious why jealousy would become apparent when one person sees it more than others. “There was talk that her father and mother were taking her back to Earth next year; it seemed vital to her that they do so, though it meant the loss of thousands of dollars to her family. And so, the children hated her for all these reasons of big and little consequence” (Bradbury 2). This quote leaves an opportunity for jealousy. As stated earlier, because the sun comes out so rarely people would become jealous knowing one person could be in the sun more than others. As a consequence of their jealousy they lock Margot in a closet, and end up reaping the consequences. “They could not meet each other’s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale. They looked at their hands and feet, their faces down” (Bradbury 4). This quote suggests the fact that the children feel poorly about locking Margot in the closet. It also proves that jealousy is never for the greater, and shows that your actions always have consequences whether mentally or physically. Furthermore, Ray Bradbury’s short story All Summer in a Day suggests the theme that jealousy and envy are never for the greater.
