General Ulysses S. Grant had a great impact on the United States both in his time as a war general and in his time as president. His role in the Civil War was instrumental to the Union victory and the strategies he employed saved many union troops and ended the war quickly. He had many wins, but also many losses and setbacks that were devastating. He learned and adapted through those setbacks and won the war and the American public. The United States would have had a much harder time winning the war and with recovery efforts afterward were it not for General Grant.
Thomas Stone wall Jackson was a war general for the Confederate army during the 1860’s, and depending if you were fighting for the North or South, a war hero. He was a fearless warrior in the civil war, he fought like no other would. Jackson earned the name in the battle of first Bull Run. There, when many men ran he stood and brought his men back in like a stone wall. With this he defeated the union army at the first Battle of Bull run.
It also gave the Union control of the Mississippi River. The Battle of Vicksburg was one of the most important Battles of the Civil War, and it helped speed up the end of the long fought war. It also let the north go into the deep south so they could eradicate the “Rebels”. It split the Confederacy in half. It made it easier to defeat the “Rebels” when they were not able to communicate with their other half.
Abraham Lincoln would lead the Republican Party even though he did not win the south over in the election. He promised that he would save the Union no matter what the cost. This disconnect in policy would later lay the basis for the Civil War, which started in 1861. He never envisioned a proclamation or ending slavery but he was ultimately committed to saving the Union from the succeeding south. Lincoln gave into the antislavery Republicans toward the end of the war and finally decided to make slavery the true basis of the war.

As much as the United States wanted to stay neutral during World War I, it proved impossible. This meant the United States had to raise the forces and money to wage war. The United States had desperately tried to stay neutral. However, ties to Britain, propaganda, the sinking ships by German U-boats, and a German attempt in the Zimmermann Note to get Mexico to declare war on the U.S pushed the United States to get involved. The Pinkerton Agency was founded in 1850 by Allan Pinkerton. Pinkerton is a National Security and Detective Agency. This Union was mostly represented by male and female detectives. However, female detectives hadn’t joined the Pinkerton Company until 1856. The first female detective’s name was Kate Warne.
