Holly #12 I chose to research Alopecia. Alopecia in layman 's terms means hair loss or baldness. Some types of hair loss are temporary while others are permanent. Alopecia is not actually a procedure but is a common autoimmune disease or condition. It occurs when your immune system attacks your hair follicles on your scalp or other areas of your body. Alopecia doesn 't harm your health or necessarily set an alarm that you have a medical issue. It may be the result though of a skin disease, ringworm, dietary deficiencies, drug reactions, anticancer medications, chemotherapy, hormonal changes, and family history, to name a few. There are many types of alopecia. Some types are traction alopecia, which happens over time usually by the hair being under tension from being in ponytails, cornrows, or other tight hairstyles. Two other types are androgenetic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness and tricotilomania, which is when hair loss is caused by a person compulsively pulling thier own hair. That is just a few kinds of alopecia. There are also three different types of alopecia areata, alopecia areata patchy, alopecia areata totalis, and alopecia areata universalis. With trying to cure or treat alopecia, depending on the treatment, there may be undesirable results. You can experience scalp irritation from using Rogaine and you can incur an infection or have scarring from surgery. Those are just one example for those treatments but medications for hair loss has many different harmful effects. But obviously just like all medications, there are most often numerous side effects. One last example of an adverse effect on the treatment of alopecia, is regarding the male only oral prescription of propecia. This is one side effect many men with androgenetic alopecia, for example, may not want and would have to contemplate about when it comes to this funny little scenario I am going to end
