Being a member of a sorority is a time sensitive objective. Countless hours of work go into each position or event held by the members of that chapter. There are many traditions and rituals that have to be done weekly. After experiencing, observing, and interviewing Alpha Delta Pi and its New Member Coordinator I have learned that being apart of a sorority is not about the title, but about being apart of something bigger than yourself. Strenuous hours of work go into keeping the chapter running its best, and none of that could be possible without the New Member Coordinator, Allie. The chapter could not operate without new members coming in and learning the ways of Alpha Delta Pi every year. Allie is in charge of the new pledge class, or the Alpha Class, and makes sure they know the ins and outs of the chapter. I asked Allie, “What are some of the terms you have to teach the new alpha members?” “I have to teach the girls a lot of new words, but I also have to teach them new meanings to words. Sisterhood takes on a whole new meaning when you join a sorority.” “Could you elaborate on that?” “Being surrounded by these girls for the next four years, you really get close with them. You might not get along with everyone all the time, but you love them regardless. You do so much together, whether its community service hours, philanthropy events, or just hanging out at the house.” A big part of greek life in Stillwater is philanthropy events.
