Hello, esteemed brothers of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, I am Darius Jackson, a native of Jacksonville Florida and a student of the illustrious Miles College. From the beginning of my sophomore year in high school, I have been interested in the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Being an individual who had not come from a line of college graduates my knowledge of fraternities and Greek life, in general, was limited to low budget movies revolving around fictional black colleges and universities. It was when my high school band director, a member of separate fraternity suggested that I have the persona of an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member that my world began to open. Throughout my matriculation at Miles College I have watched the brotherhood, I have experienced the service, and most of all I have witnessed the potential. I witnessed not only my own existing potential, but also the potential the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity could bring out of me. After being exposed to the Gamma Kappa chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha I truly recognized how much room I had to grow. This humbling experience is the exact reason why I want to become an Alpha. The idea of growing energized me, to learn new things while becoming a better person was one of my main goals in life. As I got deeper into my major which follows the path of education my goals evolved. At this point in my life, I am passionately concerned with ways to actively transform young students into better forms of themselves. I have recognized that in order to truly achieve this teaching style I must first be able to find this formula. I believe this formula exist within the threads of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
