I am currently reading, Al Capone Does My Homework by Gennifer Choldenko. The main characters are siblings Moose and Natalie Flanagin. If you’re the son of a guard on Alcatraz island in 1936 comes with major responsibilities and problems, especially when your dad gets promoted to associate warden, the number two spot on Alcatraz. The cons on the island create a point system for targeting prison employees. Since wardens are at the top, Moose’s dad could be in big trouble.

By the time he was jailed, he had order 500 men's deaths, and there were more than 1,000 that were killed in his bootleg wars. While free, Al Capone could terrorize the lives of many, but when he was jailed in the 1930's, life became safer for the public. Al Capone did not have an usual childhood.

In 1931, he rose in popularity after he killed his longtime boss Masseria suspecting that he was planning to murder him. He later became the head of one of the five families under his new boss Maranzano (Prohibition Profits Transformed the Mob). However, Luciano later killed him too after finding out he was out to get him which automatically gave Luciano the role of ultimate leader of the New York Mafia
Al capone is one of the most notorious gangsters in the country in the 1920’s. As the prohibition of alcohol was going on he sought to gain a great deal of money by selling alcohol. From 1925 to 1930 Al Capone controlled Speakeasies, bookie joints, gambling houses, brothels, horse and race tracks, nightclubs, distilleries and breweries. He made approximately 100,000,000 a year from this. Although he was famous for his killings and crime he did many things for the poor.
One of the most famous and influential prisoner to be held at Alcatraz was Al “Scarface” Capone. By 20, he moved to Chicago and became one of the most powerful gangsters. Capone managed a popular nightclub, The Four Deuces, and was involved in bootlegging, prostitution, and gambling houses. He was responsible for multiple violent acts revolved around gangs. The most famous act was on February 14, 1929, also known at St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

Capone was raised around gangs in the city when he moved there from Naples and joined one in his teens called Johnny Torrio’s James Street Boys ran by Johnny Torrio. Later, he moved on to the Five Points Gang, which he graduated from. He got into a gang fight and someone cut his face with a razor hence the nickname “Scarface” (Grossman). When Torrio entered a brothel business he sent for Capone to be a bouncer at the saloon.

Prohibition ended the legal sale of alcohol which then the eighteenth amendment came into place to prohibit it. The prohibition era brought bootlegging more crime for the u.s and more and more people were drinking than before because of bootlegging (“bootlegger”4).

In 1939 he was found guilty of tax evasion and was jailed for eight years. while in jail prohibiton ended and grew ill from syphilis. Al capone was released in 1939 and moved to florida. On january 25, 1947 Al capone died.

Both men, however, were able to prosper under the reign of previous politicians because these particular politicians were either payed off or simply did not care about the crimes of mobsters. For example, Al Capone was not arrested and tried until 1931 for federal tax evasion and Luciano in 1936 for several counts of prostitution (Charles ('Lucky') Luciano 13).

Al Capone was the most well known bosses there was. He was a very impactful leader. From eliminating rival gangs to running a successful alcohol business Al Capone did it all. Al Capone was a predator, people who got in his way were his prey. He did not just kill people to get what he wanted, he was successful in large crime organizations.
