In history there are a lot of great leaders who stood up for what they believed in and never gave up, such as the books A Mighty Long Way by Carlotta Walls LaNier and Little Rock Girl by Shelley Tougas. In the book there are young leaders who never gave up and had a great impact on young people. 14 year old Carlotta, was in the group with 8 other young teenagers who only wanted to make it to class. Just making it through the door of Central High was a huge relief. In 1957, during the integration in Little Rock Central High school, the media illuminated certain events but showed an inaccurate or incomplete picture of other events.

Even though she was born a poor African American, she worked her way up in life and kept on making a difference in the world even once she was ill. Unlike many other minorities who often focus on feeling bad for themselves and angry at those who have more, Barbara Jordan took one step at a time and put one foot in front of another. I admire how even when she did not win an election she did not give up and tried again and again until she succeeded. She won many awards for her accomplishments. Jordan said “Education remains the key to both economic and political empowerment.”
Although some people might argue that Shirley Chisholm does not demonstrate leadership qualities, a closer examination proves that the former congresswoman was a strong leader because of her independence, perseverance,and willingness to take risks. Shirley Chisholm is a great leader because she blazed a trail by being the first African American Congresswoman. For example, “Chisholm indulged her maverick nature in a spectacular gesture. She became the first black woman to run for president” (Morin pg1).This proves that she was the first black individual in her field to run for president so this makes her a trailblazer because all leaders should possess this for the reason that no leader can lead from behind.

Being a civil rights activist, social activist, and role model for women makes Maya Angelou a historical figure who has made a huge impact in American society and in American history. Born poor and black, she was a childhood victim of rape, shamed into silence. She was a young single mother who had to work at strip clubs for a living.
Within every high school in the United States of America, stereotypes affect the everyday life of adolescents. The author John Hughes’ created a classic movie The Breakfast Club to demonstrate and understand the difficulties of puberty and how it affects adolescents today. The characters within the movie are stereotyped by their peers and their teachers and face the challenge of personal identity that affect their personal, parent and teacher relationships.
