Aly Raisman can be seen as one of the famous USA gymnasts who has gone to the Olympics multiple times. Raisman can be seen with 6 Olympic medals, including 3 gold medals, 2 silver, and one bronze between the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She has praised the art of a team sport, especially in gymnastics, and has helped her team reach gold medals in team performances at both Olympics. She has praised this team sport through her use of her social media platform, which she has used for many benefits, helping many young athletes to stay within gymnastics. Jennifer Sey, a former gymnast, spoke up about the toxicity of gymnastics and claims that “‘[Gymnasts are] stretched to the point of injury, they’re denied food, they’re fat-shamed. The child is really just beaten down.’” (North). From this interview, it can be concluded that many gymnasts were going through a serious struggle while they were battling not only the sexual abuse scandal involving Larry Nassar but also struggling to be a part of the gymnastics industry as well.
