Imagine going to visit your grandparents or even your parents, and they don’t recall who you are. They have known you your whole life, and all of a sudden you are just another face out of 7 billion others. This is because of the horrible disease called Alzheimer's. According to the MAYO clinic, Alzheimer's is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. Very recently, Pfizer, the 3rd leading pharmaceutical provider, cut the research for a cure to Alzheimer's. Research for a cure to Alzheimer's should be funded. The disease affects millions of Americans and their families, friends, and caretakers. Also, finding the cure would save the government billions of dollars. The Alzheimer's disease affects many Americans and humans. 5.5 million Americans are living with this disease. It also affects 47 million people worldwide. In America, these numbers could rise to 16 million by 2050. These numbers are very high. Finding a cure to Alzheimer's could save the lives of so many people. Both are a very relevant subject in the medical field, and both of them need help finding a cure. Some people may argue that this money can be used to fund other research, but Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. More lives are taken from this disease than breast cancer, and prostate cancer combined. I’m not trying to say that they don’t deserve the same amount of research, but I’m saying that Alzheimer's could really use the money for research. The Alzheimer’s Association reports that cancer research gets $6 billion, heart disease with $4 billion, HIV/AIDS for $3 billion, and Alzheimer's coming in last with $480 million.
