Throughout the content of Maniac Magee a character, Amanda Beal, was entered through the text. Amanda Beals actions and dialogue created a trait for Amanda, helpful. Amanda wasn't helpful to just one, she helped many people in many different ways. For instance, Amanda help one unlucky boy by lending him just one book. The boy’s name was Jeffrey Magee. He became an orphan after his parents died in a trolley accident. The boy was white and running all around town. He soon crossed over to the East end where only black people were allowed because of the segregation that separated the blacks and whites. Amanda didn't think much of the whole segregation when Jeffrey came around. Jeffrey got a nickname because of how fast he could run! His nickname was Maniac …show more content…
While Maniac was reading the book that Amanda leaned to him, a bully named Mars Bar came and tried to snatch the book out of maniacs hands but the only thing he snatched from Maniac was Amanda's trust. He ripped out a page of the book. It took Maniac forever to get that book from Amanda and as soon as Amanda came over she believed what Maniac said when he told her what happened. Amanda was stood up for Maniac and told Mars Bar to leave Maniac alone. Amanda was very friendly to maniac while he was living at his house. Amanda felt that there was a way that would make Maniac fit in with the East end. That was when Amanda got the perfect idea that would help maniac. They both went to the store that was right in front hector street only to see a huge ball that looked kind of like a bee hive. Turns out that that beehive was a huge knot that nobody that could untie. Maniac took 10 minutes to look at the knot. Maniac had finally untied the knot. Thanks to Amanda, Maniac wasn't getting looked at strangely by many people anymore. Amanda thought that she had really helped manic. Little did Maniac know, there was still people causing the Beals some trouble because of him being the only white person in a black
